Deublin Co.Automatic Media Sensing Unions

The AutoSense coolant unions employ a technology that senses the type of media, whether coolant, air, or MQL. The unions are engineered for use with CNC technology, where machines use multiple types of media, at high pressures, and speeds up to 60,000 rpm. Benefits include longer tool life, improved surface finish, increased production, improved chip control, and extended seal life. A proprietary seal design senses the media, and in the presence of pressurized coolant, the seals actuate, operating like a conventional mechanical seal, transfering coolant to the spindle. In the presence of pressurized air or MQL, the seals operate with a microscopic gap for controlled leakage, which prevents contact between seals. In the absence of any pressurized media, the seals pop-off, allowing indefinite dry run. Custom sizes and configurations are available on request.

Exair Corp.Blowhard

The 2" High Power Super Air Nozzle produces a flat 2" wide airstream with a blowing force of 2.2 lb when mounted 12" from the target. The adjustable force is more than three times that of ordinary air nozzles. The nozzle maximizes entrained airflow while reducing noise levels. A precise amount of air is released through the 0.025" air gap opening set with a stainless steel shim positioned between the body and removable cap. The airstream pulls in surrounding room air to produce a wide stream of high velocity, laminar airflow. Air consumption is 37 SCFM at 80 psig. The 83 dBA sound level is below the limits of the OSHA maximum allowable noise exposure standard.

Oerlikon BalzersLower Temperature PVD Coatings

The Balinit Arctic is a line of low temperature PVD coatings for molds and components. An arc technology lets the coatings be applied at 390°F, lower than standard PVD coatings. This makes it possible to coat cold-working steels and die steels and copper alloys for plastics processing. There is no performance loss compared to coatings deposited at higher temperatures. The lower deposition temperature coats mold materials with lower tempering thresholds without distortion, loss of hardness, or reduction in corrosion resistance. There are three versions of the coatings: Balinit A Arctic – TiN – has a surface hardness of 2300HV and a coefficient of friction against steel of 0.4; Balinit D Arctic – CrN – has a surface hardness of 1750HV and a coefficient of friction against steel of 0.5; and Balinit Futura Nano Arctic – TiAlN – is a nano-layered coating that has a surface hardness of 3300HV and a coefficient of friction against steel of 0.5.

Methods Machine Tools, Inc.Two-in-One Turning Centers

The Maier MLK 125 Linear Automatic Series of Swiss-type turning centers are designed for the accurate, high volume production of parts for electronic component manufacturing and other small part applications. The machines feature 1,600 ipm rapids in all axes. They can accelerate up to 2g. Main and opposed spindles are driven by built-in 3 hp integral motors that can reach a speed rate of 15,000 rpm. The series offers a two-machines-in-one design function: removal of the guide bushing enables the machine to operate as a standard lathe, eliminating the need to centerless grind stock. Capable of machining up to 1/2" bar stock, the machines have a footprint of 60"×32". They come with a 4,600 lb solid polymer concrete base to eliminate vibration and provide an accuracy of 0.0001". The centers accommodate up to 19 tools including four driven tools.

Mori SeikiTwo Lines of VMCs

The DuraVertical vertical machining centers offer high performance machining at a competitive price. Both lines of machines offer durability, stable machine performance, reliability, and cost performance. The line was developed with a rigid body to minimize the effects of vibration and increase accuracy, even over long-term operation. Roller guides further stabilize the machine's turning ability. With four models of varying size, the VMCs provide turning lengths from 13.2" to 20.9". Chuck sizes of 6", 8", and 10" are available. All machines in the DuraTurn line contain 12 tool stations and a maximum rapid traverse rate of 944.9 ipm across both the X- and Z-axes. Different models possess maximum spindle speeds, ranging from 3,000 rpm for the DuraTurn 2550 to 6,000 rpm for the DuraTurn 1530. Three models of DuraVertical are available, with work envelopes ranging from 35.4"×23.6" to 53.1"×23.6".

Omax Corp.Waterjet Cuts Squarer Sides

The 2626|xp waterjet machines complex parts made of titanium or stainless steel that require accuracy and superior surface finish for the medical market. It has a positioning accuracy of ±0.001" over its 26" of travel in a footprint of 57"×55" and is 92" high. It also can machine materials such as plastics, glass, ceramics, and composites. It is equipped with the manufacturer's Tilt-A-Jet system, which creates virtually zero taper. Software calculates and offsets the natural taper that results from the abrasivejet. The taper is moved from the part to the scrap, leaving parts with square edges. The tank and slats are manufactured from stainless steel and it comes with standard manufacturer software including Intelli-MAX cutting enhancements, solids removal system, 600 lb abrasive delivery system, 60 kBtu chiller, mounting points for EDM-style tooling, industrial water-resistant keyboard and mouse, and precision optical locator for picking up secondary locations.

Houghton Intl.Non-smoking Quenchants

The Aqua-Quench 4000 series are aqueous quenchants for low and high hardenability steel products. They also provide slow cooling rates in the convection phase and flexible quenching speeds to make them suitable for applications typically limited to oil quenching, including pistons, forgings, mine shaft supports, and other high hardenability steel products. The quenchants do not cause smoke fumes and fire hazards, nor do they use diluted solutions. They also produce less sludge and varnish buildup. The quenchants cause less equipment and parts corrosion than strictly water-based quenchants and are available in nitrite or nitrite-free corrosion inhibition packages that help protect quench tanks, fixtures, fittings, pipe work, and cooling systems. The quenchants are compatible with most other water-based quenchant technologies, making it possible for manufactures to switch products without changing out the quench tank.

Sandvik CoromantCutting Edge High-pressure Coolant

The CoroTurn is a high-pressure coolant system that offers improved chip control, increased cutting speed, and extended tool life in difficult materials, according to the manufacturer. CoroTurn HP partners with Coromant Capto to harness the high pressure capability of up to 1,100 psi in turning centers, vertical turning lathes, and multi-task machines. Via the turret or spindle, Coromant Capto coupling channels a high pressure coolant jet through small nozzles mounted close to the insert cutting edge. The resulting increase in velocity of the coolant jet produces a hydraulic wedge that lifts the chip from the material, reducing the temperature while improving chip control. The system's improved chip control also provides security for unmanned production in turning centers with high volume, automatic component changing, and multi-task machines where chips gathering around the tool prevent automatic tool changing.
