Measure Strip Flatness
Without Touching
The Flat Trak Strip Evaluation System monitors and evaluates strip flatness and leveler operation across the moving strip without mechanical contact. The measurements are automatically compared to determine the degree of flatness. The degree of out-of-flatness is indicated using a scale that provides direct numerical measurements. Besides measuring strips being processed, the system records flatness data for each finished strip and bundle and can print the results. In addition to the detailed display on the Flat Trak touch screen, a three-color status light mounted near the top of the unit signals strip condition. A green light indicates that the strip being processed is within an acceptable customer-defined range. An amber light warns operators the strip is approaching an outer limit of the flatness standard that has been programmed. A red light alerts operators that material flatness is out of the pre-set limits. The Bradbury Co.

Good-Bye Mr. Chips
The Chip and Parts Conveyors provide a method for moving and elevating ferrous materials, such as chips, turnings, small parts, and stampings. With the exception of an externally mounted drive motor, the unit is self-contained and the conveyor mechanism is completely enclosed. There are no moving external parts to jam, break, or endanger personnel. The conveyors use a continuous series of ceramic magnets to pick up and glide materials along the stainless-steel slider plate. Material is discharged over the head end. Because of their liquid-tight construction, lower conveyor sections can be completely submerged in coolant sumps or tanks. The working face is self-cleaning, and excess fluids drain back into the tank. The line features an internal track system designed for low maintenance, quiet operation, and long service life. Standard models vary from straight horizontal to multiple doglegs including low profile units in widths from 8" to 44" wide. Eriez Manufacturing Co.

Trimmable Flap Disks
The Trimmable Tiger abrasive flap disc features a performance-engineered, trimmable backing. The design lets the operator trim the back of the disc up to 3/8" from the original diameter, exposing more flap abrasive and extending the life of the disc. It offers access to hard-to-reach areas such as right angles and irregular shapes, or grind on-edge without changing tools. The non-marking backing will not damage the workpiece, resulting in less rework and scrap. Weiler Corp.

Speedy VMC Without Tool Tip Vibrations
The NV6000 DCG is a mid-size vertical machining center developed to address growing demand from the LCD and automotive segments of the die and mold industry. The VMC delivers high-speed machining with no tool tip vibration. Through the integration of Driven at the Center of Gravity – DCG – technology, the NV6000 DCG improves surface finish, contouring accuracy, and tool life. With DCG, the net driving force acts through the center of the axis. The VMC contains five ballscrews – two on the Y-axis, two on the Z-axis, and one on the X-axis – that reduce vibration without sacrificing speed for accuracy. The NV6000 DCG is able to achieve a roundness of 1.6µm in contouring, about 40 percent better than conventional machines. It features X-axis travel of 35.4", Y-axis of 23.6", and Z-axis of 17.7". The No. 40 taper spindle has a maximum speed of 20,000 rpm. A tool changer with a 20-tool capacity comes standard. Tool-to-tool change time is 1.2 seconds. Mori Seiki

Workholder Has a Magnetic “Personality”
EEPM magnetic workholding chucks are a workholding solution that can reduce setup time. They are used for normal and heavy duty drilling, milling, and boring operations on thin to thick workpieces. Sliding pole extensions support uneven workpieces so rough or uneven stock can be held. Round stock can be held. There is no workpiece distortion, so tool chatter is minimized and surface finish and tool life are improved. The EEPM chuck needs no electricity, an electro-permanent magnet holds pieces, even during a power loss. The holding power is provided by a neodymium iron boron magnet, and there are 26 sizes available. Earth-Chain USA
